David Franklin is a farmer, a nursery man and a self-taught mechanical engineer. He’s worked with sheep, crops and has seen the trends of Landcare come and go. Bringing together 30 years of observation, practice and know-how, he has turned his attention to native grassland restoration, with impressive success. In partnership with the Grassy Groundcover Grassland Restoration Project, David has assisted in developing new techniques for native grass production and grassland restoration.

Dennis Carmichael and Glenice Ficken own and manage a Merino sheep and cropping farm west of Kerang. Faced with the reality of reduced irrigation water allocations and dry years, the “Fairley Downs” managers are considering all options when it comes to pasture production, including a growing interest in native pastures.
